I was having lunch with my brother, telling him about how it’s all the rage lately to predict the imminent demise of the RDBMS because a certain number of well-publicised sites with huge traffic loads cannot use RDBMSs to handle the workload.
“Sure, Google uses BigTable for its services,” my brother said, “but do you think they keep their payroll in BigTable? Or do you think they use an RDBMS for internal stuff that has to be correct?”
I didn’t have an answer, but I had a pretty good guess; RDBMS.
